Took awhile for an update. Apologies to the listeners earlier tonight that had the music cut out on them. Had to change the bit rate down to 56K due to some people saying the music would buffer in and out. Hopefully gonna get windows media up on for music also. Any other suggestions, hit me up: dj.hektik@gmail.com

This Friday Deeohz will be playing at Knockout Fridays. Peep that. I played there about 2 weeks ago and the spots pretty dope. As I mentioned before, it's with Jo_Ill & Ocean. Check Gaveegavs pic. Hilarious. It's been a pretty busy week. Real bad case of the mondays tuesdays and probably wednesdays. The Evil D show was tonight, didnt get to catch it.

But this Sunday we do got ATrack comming thru to SD. Shows gonna be at Aubergines. Cros and Princess Jackie is pulling that one out of the hat. I wanna make it to that one too but I got my Reggae night. I am just missing so many things this week.

As promised here are some pics from my sunday night. Pics taken by Cros.

ME

CROS GETTING ARTSY ON THE CAM.

Is it me or are the New Era X thing getting really out of hand? I mean the designs are pretty fresh but damn, 15 new hat designs comming out every week. I'm just wondering when COMPLEX MAGAZINE is gonna put it On the Fence or just straight DUMP. I still got my classic Supeme caps so imma just chill with those for awhile. I ain't too much in a hurry to cop the newest kicks or gear. But hey maybe its the lack of dough.

Picked up Cam's new album today "Killa Season". I always been a Dipset fan, but like his last album some of his lyrics from past mix cds or past actual album tracks are dropped again on this album. But with different names. "We Make Change" sounds like or is the same lyrics as "A Yo" from Diplomatic Immunity 2. And his joints that killed it on past Dipset mixtapes are on here. But kinda old now so the heat is just not there like how they carried last year. But nonetheless, Dipset still be killin it. - HEKTIK

Back from the club. Reggae Sundays at Martini Ranch. Cros took pics so imma post them up later today. Gotta big up one of our supporters right now from NY. On the dancehall tip we got DEADLY DRAGON SOUND. Located between Broome and Grand Street in Chinatown. They are a great resource for reggae fanatics around the world. When it comes to certain genres in reggae they pretty much got everything broken down on their site. Ranging from gun tunes, weed tunes, foundation, and many more. They really do break it down when it comes to finding that certain vibe. Check them at www.deadlydragonsound.com and also this short documentary about their site on Current TV. The description on the site says " The definitive spot to hit for all your Vintage Reggae needs and more. Deadly Dragon Sound, a little recordshop in Chinatown, NYC has the hard to find stuff, from original 1950s vinyl presses straight from Jamaica's underbelly to Jamaican cookbooks, rare out of print books and reggae DVDs." When I get to land in NY, thats probably the first place imma hit up. Cros where the ticket at?

Tomorrow Cros and I are gonna be playing at Earthbound Radio . We got a show up on there called "ARMORY MASSIVE" with the rest of the Armory crew. So definately need to tune in and listen. The Earthbound Radio crew have really been doing their thing for the hip hop scene in SD. Having a lot of hip hop guest come thru that aren't on the jggy side of things. Live shows every night. It's good stuff. Also our shows are recorded so if you log on to their site you can here some of our past shows and also other shows they got on there. Shoutout to Domino, Twin Rockwell and the rest of the crew. Oh check the photo below from their site. Left to right is Unique, Cros, and me. I look like i fucking just woke up. Shits horrible. - HEKTIK

Damn it. have you spread the word that we up? Dont forget. So I remembered I promised some friends around the way that I would post their site up. They are called HOME GROWN BLENDS. A crew of djs and producers that are just on the grind putting out mix cds and vinyl. CD covers are whats shown up top. One of the newest mix cds is by DJ Bojo called "Grown Folks Music". We actually ran a smapler of his mix on one of our past shows. And I do have to say that its pretty off the hook.

The description of it from the site says: If you want to hear songs about iced out grills, 22"s, or humps then do not buy this CD. This mix was designed for the listeners with a discerning ear; the grown ass men and women out there who care about the message in the music.

Nuff said. Go on their site and buy all them cds. www.homegrownblends.com They also doing their thing all over SD. Jo_ill from their crew is doing his thing along with DJ Ocean at the Morena Club called Knockout Fridays. Go there. Check the flyer for the spot. Can you spot the SOM Mascot?

Gotta also mention some other spots happening in SD. Probably since im gonna mention it a lot. Haha. First up is happening tomorrow night at Martini Ranch called "Reggae Sundays" which is the spot where I play at every weekend alongside the home Tek. We playing dancehall, lovers, soca, classic party tracks, some jiggy and even some hyphy. People really do get DUMB and SHAKE THEM DREADS. Brought to you by Cros1 of Armory Massive and Dawood of The Shotta Crew. Check out more about the SD dancehall scene at Dawoods website www.sandiegoreggaeclubs.com

Also on wednesdays we have DJ Charlie Rock of Rocksteady Crew/Dojo Sessions doing his thing at the Kava Lounge called "The Green Machine". Below is a past flier of the spot. By the way, the address is 2812 and not 1812 on the flier.

You know what..I wanna add more to this but i'm damn tired. It's Mothers Day. Happy Mothers. Word to the Mother. And if your filipino...I gotta say "My aunties so fat that...(insert your momma joke here). To be continued tomorrow. Oh by the way that show on MTV "Yo Momma" is completely wack. How the hell you gonna have a yo mamma joke show when we was all snapping bout moms back in the "White Men Cant Jump Days". Remember them "Snap" books? Whats the 90-91? The kids on that show always bust out the "I taught your mom the running man and I havent seen the bitch since". Come on now, they was probably born when the running man came out. How they gonna remember that dance?? Aight nuff said for tonight. - HEKTIK

May 13, 2006 - 2:06pm

Gonna post more info on our supporters tonight but for now just whatevers. I can't front nor deny that i'm still bumping some new jack swing. My next mix cd is actually a new jack cd. I'm gonna call it "A New Jack Love". Will be out in a few weeks, but for now check this site out called "New Jack Swing 4 Ever". It's pretty much a database of that whole era. www.njs4ever.com So peep them out while wearing some Kwame polka dots and doing the Kid & Play. Just dont get the sawgger mixed up by wearing some Hammer pants. Oh yeah, you can't front of Guy or Today. They did their thing backin the day.

Also on some music news, past shows and mixes will some be available for download in a few days. So if ya'll missed our live shows that we ran when we first started, now you can pick them up. Shows like Smalls and Slyeds top notch "DUKES THERAPY". Now that show had just pure heat. Breaks, classic hip hop and everything between was served up on that show. Something ya'll need to look out for. "THURSDAYS SELECT" was with me, Deeohz, Impakt, Mahjestik, and sometimes the homie Friction and Cros1 would come thru. We served up some classic hip hop, classic R&B, some new jack swing, and even some dancehall. So be on the look out to pick the shows up. Tons more also will be available. Too much to describe. Crazy thing was that most of the shows was ran at my house. Actually right now everything is ran in a room at my home. Peep below.

Straight home made. But we still able to crack out some good shows. Hopefully we gonna get that going. But which leads to the next thing. Cros called me up a few days ago and told me that him and I gonna do a spot here in SD on every other thursday. Not sure the location but it will definately be linked up to the site. "STATE OF MIND THURDAYS" perhaps? Stay tuned. Oh yeah...now tune in. - HEKTIK

May 13, 2006 - 12:00am

So everything is a go with the site. Now tell peoples! It's time to give it up to our friends supporting us. First up are some local SD spots.

The Armory. Reppin SD to the fullest. Cros1, LPSD, Sharpshooters, Charlie Rock, BBoy Mafia and a host of others repping the crew. The store pretty much has everything you need thats all about hip hop. You can pick up some Freestyle Session videos, bunch of gear..Armory is pretty much a clothing lable as well, tons of vinyl, mix cds, graff writers can get everything the need there and damn..you can even pick up some kicks. Cros be traveling so he be picking up some hard to find sneakers and even Bapes. Nuff said.

Check them out. www.armoryhiphop.com and you can myspace them at www.myspace.com/armoryhiphop

Next is 5 & A DIME comming straight from the homie Jay Dread. Located at the same spot as the old RE:UP store, Jay is really doing his thing. I used to hit up his spot when it was RE:UP but havent been able to check the spot out. Knowing Jay, I have no doubt that he made the spot a million times better hosting brands like Mighty Healthy, Rogue Status, Hellz Bellz and a bunch more. I just remember picking Jay up from his sisters pad before heading to Landlord Jims where we would spin at. And he would tell me how he was gonna open up his own store. And it happened. Straight up focus. Well anyways the picture below shows the vision. www.5andadime.com One of the spots that did actually carry The Hundreds Paisley hoody. Speaking of The Hundreds, shout to them. I do got to say I been stuck on their blog lately. Check them out. www.thehundreds.com - HEKTIK

May 12, 2006 - UPDATE!!

Finally updating the site. Damn it's been a long ass time since we had time to do this. Shout out to Smalls for holding it down for the past year. Now I gotta update it so to let you know I am crazy rusty on web design. I went to design school for it and this is finally the first time for me to actually make a site. Crazy right? Well anyways...the music is up on the site. Come thru and listen. You can check our playlist of about 5000 or so songs. Forreals. Just log on, queue up some tracks and do your daily grind if you need to. Oh yeah if you a DJ that want's to stream your mix, hit us up and we can do that for you. Thats pretty much what I wanted to do from the get go with this site. Cros from the Armory asked me this question before..and this was what I told him:

CROS: what is your goal with what your doing with State of Mind
HEKTIK: Well what its supposed to develope to is a place where dj's who wanna get their mixes out on the net..like I always wanted to hear a cd I made or whatever up so that I can let people know where to hear me. Like a promotional tool
HEKTIK: So like you have a cros1 cd...and you wanna promote it..
HEKTIK: I'd put it up...set it up so it plays certain times..and you can be like..yo you can hear my new cd on state of mind radio
HEKTIK: Kinda like a movie theatre...get me? Like djs can get spots to help promote their stuff..while also promoting the site on where peoples can hear it.
HEKTIK: Like also lets say a store like Commonwealth in VA wants to promote their store on the net..
HEKTIK: They getting airtime a couple hours to put what they want peoples to know or listen to on the site...
HEKTIK: Promoting their spot and the site as well..so we help eachother out..
HEKTIK: Like before I was like yo I need to put one of my cds up to promote...but I had no means on how to...
HEKTIK: Now I can do it with the site...its for everybody..get it?

Well hopefully the mix cd thing comes thru. Smalls is setting up a lot of collabos so be on the look out. So lookout for us this year. We'll see what bubbles up from this thing. SMALLYBIGGS, HEKTIK, DEEOHZ, BAM, SLYED, IMPAKT & MAHJESTIK. Now click the "Listen" link and tune in! - HEKTIK
